A golfer’s emergency visit to a pharmacy didn’t stop him from winning one of the sport’s biggest tournaments yesterday (June 15).

American J. J. Spaun won his first major golf championship after finishing on a -1 scorecard at the 2025 US Open held at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

In a press conference after his win, Spaun was asked about how he prepared before the final round.

He revealed how his family was woken in the early hours after one of his daughters became ill.

He said: “Today, I was running to CVS in downtown because my daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long.

“My wife was up at 3am and she’s like ‘Violet’s vomiting – she can’t keep anything down’ so it was a rough start to the morning.

“I’m not blaming that on my start, but it fit the mould of what was going on - the chaos.”

The other “chaos” saw a 90-minute delay to the final day due to rain flooding the course.

But the 34-year-old putted a spectacular 64-foot birdie on his last hole to help him finish two shots ahead of second placed Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre.

The US Open is the third of four men’s majors in the golfing calendar, with final major The Open beginning on July 17 in Northern Ireland.

It comes as Scottish pharmacy negotiator Community Pharmacy Scotland (CPS) raised £8,732 in a charity golf day for baby loss counselling charity Held In Our Hearts last month.

Last year, the Birmingham Pharmaceutical Golf Society celebrated its centenary year and called on the younger generation to join the group and carry on its legacy.
