Pharmacy in Person with Sam Appiah-Anane
Sam Appiah-Anane is the third president of the UK Black Pharmacists Association (UKBPA) and NHS Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust deputy director of pharmacy.
Appiah-Anane has a background in commissioning, community pharmacy, general practice and acute hospitals.
Having a career across the north and south of England, Wales, and Scotland, he is fascinated by and celebrates the rich diversity of our country that he believes the pharmacy profession needs to not only be responsive to, but to also reflect.
Although Appiah-Anane has privilege in being in many rooms and spaces in the pharmacy world, he recognises that pharmacy does not always feel as inclusive for all, and addressing that is a driver in his career.
In this podcast, Appiah-Anane explains how the UKBPA can support Black pharmacists through mentorship and peer support.
He talks about his most memorable patient and what it taught him about pharmacy's role in medicines and giving a voice to those who don't have one in healthcare.
And he shares his advice for getting through hard times and how being curious led him to completing a placement in Cambodia.
