Boots today (January 27) confirmed that its deputy superintendent pharmacist Dr José Moss passed away from cancer earlier this month.

She had worked at the pharmacy giant for more than 15 years, starting as a senior professional regulation and clinical governance manager in 2009. She stepped into the deputy superintendent pharmacist role in 2015.

Moss began studying for her pharmacy bachelor’s degree at the University of Brighton in 1988 and worked as a pharmacy manager at Safeway during her studies.

She then moved to Alliance Healthcare for seven years and continued there following the merger with Boots for another 15 years, a spokesperson told C+D.

"Commitment to the profession”

“José’s legacy is shaped by her contribution and commitment to the profession and to patient safety,” Boots superintendent pharmacist Claire Nevinson said.

“We will always remember her compassion, empathy, kindness and unwavering care for both colleagues and patients. She leaves an indelible mark on our profession and in our hearts,” she added.

Moss’s work at Boots included the digitisation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), evolving pharmacy incident and event reporting systems, managing professional communications, and developing professional leadership training programmes.

She also supported the pharmacy profession more widely in her position as vice-chair of the community pharmacy patient safety group and the chair of the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA) pharmacy practice group.
