Over 700 community pharmacy professionals gathered in London last night (September 11) to celebrate the industry’s achievements over the last 12 months at the James Bond-themed C+D Awards.

There were 13 categories this year, including the new Pharmacy Technician of the Year award, to celebrate the individuals and teams making an important difference to patients.

You can see the list of nominees and our list of winners from the awards.

C+D editor-in-chief James Halliwell wished a “huge congratulations to the winners” and said the “scope and the breadth of them reveals the depth, variety and expansion of healthcare in community pharmacy”.

The evening kicked off with a drinks reception overlooking Hyde Park in London before guests entered the ballroom for their sit-down three-course meal.

There were two quizzes for attendees to attempt, with the first linking the year a James Bond film was released to a landmark event that took place in community pharmacy.

Another quiz was laid out for everyone to take part in during the awards ceremony, with attendees guessing the iconic James Bond theme song when each winner was announced.

But shortly before the awards began, the guests could hear a familiar “voice of God” as BBC’s University Challenge announcer Roger Tilling introduced our host for the evening.

Known for his hit ITV1 daytime show Judge Rinder, and going on to become a regular Good Morning Britain host and co-hosting TV series with fellow media personality Rylan Clark, barrister Rob Rinder MBE began his compere duties with a heartfelt speech about community pharmacy.

He mentioned how he sensed the industry was full of “people going about their business quietly” but had been “consistently undervalued” and credited the industry for investing into people’s “safety” and “health”.

He quipped a few jokes about community pharmacy’s sexiness, including its access to Viagra, as well as how he’s happy that those winning from a title with the name “druggist” in it is a nice change to some of the clients he’s worked for who have won something else from a druggist that has ended up in a police evidence bag.

“I’ll never take you and your community for granted again,” he said at the end of his speech.

After the awards presentation, guests joined the after party where photo booths, money grabber machines, and casino tables for blackjack and roulette were soundtracked by a popping live band and DJ set that saw community pharmacy dance their heart out until the early hours.

And our guests have reacted to the awards on social media.

One of our judges, the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) board member Ashley Cohen, wished all the nominees good luck before the evening started.

The GP or PCN Pharmacist of the Year winner Emily Bond shared a sparkly picture with her award.
