Community pharmacy partners with Southall FC to deliver heart health screenings
A community pharmacy has partnered with Southall Football Club to deliver cardiac screenings to players and club staff.
Puri Pharmacy will deliver resting 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) screenings to the football club, in an aim to “identify concerns that may need further assessment and make heart health part of player welfare”.
Results will be forwarded on to a UK cardiologist for assessment through the pharmacy’s “reporting pathway”.

The ECG machine records the heart’s electrical activity and provides “several different views of that activity” to help the cardiologist interpret the patient’s results.
As Southall FC’s medical sponsor, Puri Pharmacy also provides the club with advice and medical equipment, as well as delivering check-ups to the first team throughout the football season.
Screening “saves lives”
Puri Pharmacy worked alongside Southall FC to garner support from sponsors and local businesses to finance the ECGs, with club screenings costing £37 plus VAT for each participant.
According to Puri Pharmacy’s website, heart screenings “significantly” reduce the risk of suffering a cardiac arrest during sport and saves lives by “identifying hidden heart conditions before symptoms develop”.

It comes after Pharmacy2U launched the UK’s “largest corporate cardiovascular screening programme” for workers in May.
The online pharmacy said its new initiative would help test “100,000 workers for risk indicators of cardiovascular disease” and provide “follow-up information and support”, including “a pharmacist telephone consultation about the test results”.
