Pharmacist MP relocates to village named Pill
If you were writing a film script for your life as a pharmacist, what place do you think would be the best to live?Â
Well, for Labour MP for North Somerset and former PillTime superintendent Sadik Al-Hassan, it seems heâs found the perfect place to settle and bridge his former profession to his home.Â

Last week (April 15), Al-Hassan announced he was moving to the North Somerset village of Pill by the River Avon, saying âit was always written that [a] pharmacist MP moves to Pillâ.
He told C+D âalthough nothing in life is ever guaranteed, if I was writing the story of my life then the move of a pharmacist to Pill would seem an essential plot point, and not just for the puns!âÂ
Al-Hassan has visited the village many times, holding regular constituency surgeries there since he was elected in July.Â

His election win saw him score one of the historic upsets by ousting the tory grandee Sir Liam Fox, who had represented North Somerset for more than 30 years, by just 639 votes. Â
Al-Hassan previously worked in a pharmacy in nearby Clevedon, which helped him settle in the area after moving around Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol during his life.Â

He told local press Pill has a âwonderful community feel, with a library and childrenâs centre, the volunteer-run resource centre offering various support services.Â
âThere is also the monthly market in the precinct with a wide variety of stalls from local businesses such as Marcie and Aubreyâs bakery, the Wicked Chilli, and local honey from Paul the beekeeper.Â
âI am also a big fan of the delicious offerings in the fairly recent addition to Pill, LâAmour Du CafĂ©,â he added.Â

Last month, Al-Hassan said that a new community pharmacy prescribing service is âa good aspirationâ but that he does ânot think we can do it this yearâ.Â
In February, he sat down with C+D to talk funding, why Janet Morrison is doing an âamazing jobâ, online regs and what pharmacy really wants from the future.Â
And his first parliamentary speech in November saw him raise concerns about the âdecline of community pharmaciesâ.Â
