Students must be a child or spouse of a registered pharmacist or pharmacy technician, or work in community pharmacy themselves, to be eligible for the up-to £3,000 a year bursary.

Applicants must also be in “financial need” and the amount received will depend “on your financial need” and the “total amount of funding we have available to distribute each year”.

Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT) director Professor Anna Vignoles CBE FBA said “opening access to further education is vital for the pharmacy trade” as “easing financial pressure can make all the difference”.

“Each successful award means another student will be that bit closer to their goals and we’re proud to play a part in that journey,” she added.

In the last five years, the Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust (LTCT) has awarded “more than 1,600 undergraduate bursaries” across 150 different institutions.

Including other bursaries it gives to students, such as its postgraduate bursaries, the LTCT has distributed £10.7 million to UK students.

Universities receive the bursaries on student’s behalf before passing it onto them, and the university will provide a yearly report confirming your financial situation and academic performance to avoid re-applying each year.

Applications are open until October 15.

The charity’s £5,000 postgraduate bursary is open for applications until September 1.

The LTCT has a new vocational bursary scheme worth £1,000 a year for students studying a vocational course at any UK college.

And earlier this summer, it previously offered £150 grants per school-age child to those working in community pharmacy to cover costs for school uniforms, stationery and travel.
