Buying + Selling: Day Lewis sells, nuclear town pharmacy bought, and Welsh seaside pharmacy freehold up for sale
Day Lewis Pharmacy (Warwick)
A Day Lewis pharmacy by a health centre has been sold to a first-time buyer in Warwick (September 30).
The Day Lewis Pharmacy next to Chase Meadow Health Centre is a standard hours pharmacy dispensing an average of 5,500 items per month and is located in a busy shopping parade in a Warwick residential suburb.
New owner Mohammed Noor has worked in small and large multiple operators since qualifying 12 years ago and thought this Day Lewis branch was ideal where he can add value with his independent prescriber qualification.
Day Lewis has over 260 pharmacies in the UK, and Christie & Co pharmacy director Carl Steer said this pharmacy sale was agreed “inside 16 weeks above the guide price” after 12 offers were received.
Colliery Pharmacy
A GP-owned health centre pharmacy in Staffordshire has been sold to a small independent chain (September 10).
Colliery Pharmacy in the Cannock suburb of Huntington has been sold by the GPs of B & H Healthcare Limited who owned it for the past 10 years.
Harvey Northwood, who runs the seven-strong group of Northwoods Chemists in West Midlands, has purchased the pharmacy which dispenses a high 16,500 items on average per month.

Christie & Co pharmacy director Carl Steer says Staffordshire has become a “much-improved market for selling in 2025” after a recent sale in Uttoxeter and two more due to be announced soon.
“With the advent of the new contract, buyers are keen to secure a pharmacy at greater numbers than perhaps we have seen since 2019,” Steer added.
Leiston Pharmacy
A new pharmacy owner wants to grow his pharmacy by benefitting from the local population increase caused by the expansion of Suffolk’s nuclear power station (September 24).
Leiston Pharmacy in the coastal town of Leiston has been bought by Ashok Sanka, who already owns Green Cross Pharmacy in nearby Bramford.
It’s located a few miles away from the Sizewell C Power Station which is under development and expected to generate more jobs locally, with Christie & Co pharmacy director Mark Page saying this has given the area a “real boost”.
Sanka bought it as he was drawn to the pharmacy’s “great reputation” and the “main goal is to build on the great work that’s already been done”.
"We want to expand services like vaccinations, NHS services, and patient support, while also making things more convenient digitally for patients. We’re also looking at ways we can collaborate with local healthcare providers so that Leiston Pharmacy continues to be a central part of the community’s healthcare."
The pharmacy was dispensing an average of 11,500 items a month and had been owned by Ben Ampomah for 25 years. He will look to retire and “said “we’re delighted with the enthusiasm of the buyer and feel he will do very well in the town”.
Petter Pharmacy
A North London pharmacy has been sold out of administration (September 11).
Petter Pharmacy of Crouch End went into administration in 2023 and has now been purchased by a local operator expanding their portfolio.
It had been dispensing a high 15,500 items a month and Christie & Co pharmacy director Mark Page said this “rare opportunity” to snap up a high volume pharmacy led to multiple offers from local and national operators.
Large freehold with pharmacy up for sale
A mixed commercial and residential freehold in a seaside Welsh village that includes a pharmacy is up for sale (September 1).
Saundersfoot Pharmacy is one of three retail units plus six flats being sold as one freehold for a guide price of £1.42 million.

The Rightmove listing says the village is boosted by holidaymakers in the summer, as the pharmacy’s location runs alongside the beach in Saundersfoot.
It says the rent for the pharmacy is £14,400 per annum and the total potential gross income for the rents of all the retail shops and flats is around £136,800.
£1.5m Midlands pharmacy opens
A Kettering pharmacy has opened its new, renovated branch after a £1.5m makeover (September 30).
Thursfield Pharmacy has opened its Dalkeith Place branch with a new dispensary kitted out with a £300,000 robot to help sort medications and a separate £200,000 machine to pack bespoke prescriptions to free up staff time, according to the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
Moving from its smaller premises at School Lane, there are more consultation rooms to deliver its services across provide flu and Covid vaccinations, weight management, ear syringing and for travel services.
Thursfields has two other branches in Kettering and Corby and its managing director Baboo Patel said as “NHS services are evolving, we want to create something for the town, a space that will be future proof”.
Supermarket plans expansion into pharmacy
A supermarket has submitted planning application to extend into the premises of a pharmacy (September 2).
Aldi in Yarm, North Yorkshire, wants to extend into Whitworth Chemists in Healaugh Park, as the pharmacy plans to move into the nearby vacant space in the shopping parade that the Post Office has just vacated, according to local news.
The extension will create a new store front and reconfigure car parking spaces for electric vehicles.
Newcastle council welcomes new pharmacies
A Newcastle city council leader has praised the NHS for approving two applications for new pharmacies (September 9).
Karen Kilgour said it’s “fantastic news” for Kenton and Heaton and was pleased there may be a third pharmacy application approved “in the near future”.
Boots and Lloyds pharmacies had closed in Heaton and Kenton over the past two years, but the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board decided to not permission for two new pharmacies to open in these Newcastle neighbourhoods.

But the appeals body NHS Resolution had reversed two decisions after new Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) identified gaps in services in both areas, along with Cruddas Park.
The two new pharmacies are expected to open within the next 12 months.
St Stephens Chemist
A Leicester community pharmacy has been sold so its owner can retire (September 16).
Mahesh Patel of Meritplan Ltd had run St Stephens Chemist for over 20 years, dispensing an average of 5,150 items per month in a densely populated residential area of the city.
First-time buyers Frank and Dorothy Hemans bought St Stephens Chemist for the guide price after only five weeks of the pharmacy being marketed.

Christie & Co pharmacy director Carl Steer said the sale follows two others this year in Leicestershire and two more to follow which proves the “strength of the market in Leicester”.
“Sales prices typically range from £460,000 through to £1,250,000, with the majority selling to first-time buyers,” he added.
Cox Pharmacy
A husband-and-wife pharmacist team have bought a Nottingham pharmacy to ease its previous owner’s workload (September 12).
Jackie Hart decided to sell Harts Chemist on Oakdale Road in the Bakersfield suburb of the city so she could focus on her other two pharmacies.
Nathaniel and Angarju Amoah, who have owned nearby Jayplex Chemist since 2022, purchased the 7,000 items per month pharmacy after the sale was agreed in a quick 12 weeks.
D B Jones Pharmacy
A High-dispensing pharmacy has been sold above the asking price in Watford (September 29).
Former owner Raj Pandya had grown D B Jones Pharmacy into a highly regarded pharmacy as it dispenses 8,200 items per month on average.
Hutchings said the pharmacy had multiple offers submitted, with it ideally located in a busy shopping parade.
Prima Pharmacy
A shopping parade pharmacy close to a hospital has been sold for its 30-year owner to retire (August 27).
The standard hours Prima Pharmacy in the residential area close to Barnet General Hospital has been sold by Kamlesh Upadhyaya through brokers Christie & Co.

Dispensing an average of 2,830 items per month, it has been bought by a first-time buyer from Watford who will add more services to the pharmacy
Housing development pharmacy consultation
A Scottish NHS board has opened a consultation over a new pharmacy to be located in a housing development (August 28).
Scottish chain Dears Pharmacy have proposed to open a branch in Kingdom Park, Kirkcaldy, that will be open 53 hours a week from Monday to Saturday.
The housing development on the outskirts of the town will have 1,100 homes built by 2028.
Pharmacy opposes restaurant expansion
An Isle of Wight pharmacy has rejected plans for a restaurant to build an outdoor seating area next to its premises (September 1).
A representative for Gibbs & Gurnell Chemists in Ryde wrote to the local council objecting to Fumo33 restaurants proposed installation of railings to enclose an outside seating area.

The letter said it would “encroach on the current parking lot” and it would “not benefit the public” as its elderly patients “already struggle to obtain medications” when visiting the pharmacy.
It added the pharmacy is “heading in a direction of more collection and less delivery” and suggest the street needs “more parking” and to cut the speed limit to 20mph “to aid with parking on a rather difficult slope amongst a pedestrianised area”.
Planning permissions granted
An Ipswich pharmacy has been given the green light to open in a new site (September 1).
Wellbeing Pharmacy, located in Orchard Street Medical Centre, will move to Blanche Street despite some concerns from the public over parking and the impact on a nearby pharmacy.
On the Ipswich Borough Council decision, it stated the pharmacy would be open for 61 hours Monday to Saturday.
Day Lewis Pharmacy, Colliery Pharmacy, Leiston Pharmacy, Petter Pharmacy, St Stephens Chemist, Cox Pharmacy, D B Jones Pharmacy, Prima Pharmacy have all been sold for undisclosed prices.
