The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has created a new workshop for pharmacy technicians.

The course is designed to “equip pharmacy technicians with the competence and confidence to safely supply or administer medicines under Patient Group Directions (PGDs)”.

Attendees will develop their “practical skills needed to apply PGD frameworks, deliver high‑quality consultations and recognise when referral is appropriate”.

They will be "interactive" and “scenario-based”,  and run for two hours each.

Pharmacy technicians will also be able to “practice real‑world consultations, explore potential challenges, and share solutions with peers”.

The workshops will be held throughout England and can be signed up for via the CPPE website.

Uplift

In January, The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) said they are in favour of “uplifting the initial education and training standards” to become a pharmacy technician.

It said this would ensure the workforce is “equipped for evolving roles and responsibilities”.

In May, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and NHS England (NHSE) appointed a “new national pharmacy technician fellow”.

Olivia Musson was appointed to the role, and is working “across the office” of the chief pharmaceutical officer and the GPhC, it said.
