Pharmacist Support has received over £5,000 through fundraisers completing a walking challenge last month.

The ‘Walk for Wellbeing: 97 for 97’ campaign encouraged people to walk 97km or 97,000 steps to fundraise for the pharmacy charity, as 97% of pharmacy professionals said they needed support from Pharmacist Support at some point in their lives.

There were 13 fundraisers who took part, including the Royal College of Pharmacy’s retired pharmacists’ team who raised £1,998 of the total, and Pharmacist Support chief executive Danielle Hunt praised everyone who took part and sponsored the fundraisers.

“We know that life and work in pharmacy can bring significant pressures, and looking after our own wellbeing is so important,” she said. “It has been wonderful to see our pharmacy family come together, support one another and raise vital funds to help us be there for those who need us.”

The charity said the donations help it to provide free and confidential support either through counselling, financial assistance services or wellbeing support for those dealing with issues such as addiction, grief, anxiety, homelessness, workplace bullying, and domestic abuse.

Pharmacist Support ambassador and North East London LPC chief executive Shilpa Shah said pharmacists’ “own health and wellbeing is often overlooked” and raised over £2,000 of the total, completing the challenge using her daily steps.

Hunt said it was “wonderful” to see people making time “for their own wellbeing”.

“We hope the conversations and connections created through this year’s challenge will continue beyond September,” she added.

It comes after the charity revealed a “record number” of counselling sessions for pharmacists were funded by Pharmacist Support in 2025, with funded counselling sessions rising from 439 in 2024 to 700 in 2025.

Last week, the National Pharmacist Association (NPA) announced it will donate £1 “per NPA member pharmacy” to help fund Pharmacist Support’s activities.
