Pharmacy in Person with Jay Badenhorst
Jay Badenhorst is a pharmacist and healthcare leader with more than 20 years of experience across frontline practice, organisational leadership, research, and national representation. Originally trained in South Africa, he built his career in the UK, starting in community pharmacy before progressing into senior leadership roles, including executive and company director roles at Whitworth Chemists, as superintendent pharmacist and managing director.
He has held several influential leadership positions, including serving as chair of Community Pharmacy Tees and board member and vice-chair of the National Pharmacy Association. Most recently, he served as director of pharmacy at the Pharmacists’ Defence Association.
Badenhorst was named Community Pharmacist of the Year in 2015 and has led research into early cancer detection and public health innovation through community pharmacy. He also holds a Master of Laws that reflects his interest in professional regulation and broader healthcare policy.
In this podcast, Badenhorst shares his career journey from working in his home country of South Africa, adjusting to working in English and taking the OSPAPs, building a a career in Yorkshire and becoming a superintendent, to his roles focusing on advocacy in the sector.
