A West Midlands pharmacy has been nominated for an award after being “an example to all as to how to serve your community”.

Stourbridge’s Swinford Pharmacy was named as a nominee for the Mayor’s Ball and Civic Awards last week (April 4). It was picked personally by the Mayor of Dudley, councillor Hilary Bills, after she made hundreds of visits to local organisations during her year in office.

Swinford Pharmacy director Olutayo Arikawe said it was “a great honour” and she was “humbled to be nominated”.

“Our staff – the A team as I fondly call them - are dedicated,” she said. “I am thankful to them because we are able to provide a consistent excellent service due to their commitment and support.”

The Mayor of Dudley said it was difficult to “whittle it down to a final three” after visiting “so many wonderful and inspirational people and groups this year doing wonderful things in their communities”.

Volunteer group Hope’s Christmas Hampers and the 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron Air Training Corps are also nominated for their community work.

The mayor urged people to “vote for their favourite. Whoever wins will be fully deserving of it, and I look forward to seeing the result on April 25."
