Hi! I'm Surayyah, a second-year UK pharmacy student passionate about patient-centred care, health equity, medical technology, and pharmaceutical engineering. My journey so far has contained an array of diverse opportunities, including working with large organisations such as NHS, Pfizer, PH2S and Thermo Fisher Scientific to name a few, enabling me to enhance my adaptive problem-solving and critical thinking amongst several skills. These experiences have fostered a fascination of pharmaceutical engineering, biophysics and nanotechnologies, and their potential in optimising drug development for neurological cancers, leading me to seek mentorship in this industry area with VP of Medical Affairs at Resonance Inc. - Dr Martin Guscott. As a scientific researcher published in a Harvard GSAS journal, in the field of astrophysics, and having received the national IRIS Best Researcher Award for this work, my commitment to advancing STEM knowledge is evident. Alongside my studies I proudly partake in ambassadorial work as a recipient of the Women In STEM (WIS) scholarship funded by CEO at Procter and Gamble - Gary Coombe, where I actively to promote diversity and foster inclusivity in STEM disciplines. I am currently serving as a medical physics researcher at the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, working on novel projects at the exciting interface of engineering and medicine. The first explores utilising wearable laser doppler flowmetry sensors in measuring and analysing blood perfusion disparities, and the latter focuses on the adoption of LITT (Laser Interstitial Thermal Technology) in treating a variety of tumours. Looking beyond my time at university, I aspire to apply my skills in healthcare innovation, particularly in underprivileged regions, contributing to my vision of accessibility and health equity. Let's network and together we can explore opportunities at the ever-growing intersection of physical sciences and healthcare.
