A village pharmacy has raised £1,200 from a coffee morning for a motor neurone disease charity.

Airth Pharmacy, in the Falkirk area, held the event on April 16 to raise money for MND Scotland, which supports those living with the disease and funds research into it.

Pharmacist Katrina Geddes told C+D that the pharmacy had done similar fundraising events years ago and it helped bring the community together.

“We only took over the shop in November, so it was an opportunity to get to know people in the area,” she said.

Geddes also runs REN Pharmacy in Stenhousemuir, and the pharmacy said the coffee morning is “proof that when a community comes together, and there’s cake involved, great things happen”.

The pharmacy staff ran the coffee morning, with some of their children helping to serve cakes to those who came in.

£600 was raised from the coffee and cakes sold, and Geddes decided to match the amount raised, with £1,200 in total donated to MND Scotland.

She said the pharmacy would consider doing more events like the coffee morning going forward to meet the local community.
